The painter Smilyana Todorova was inspired by the following words of Vincent written to Theo in November 1889:

" I still want very much to paint some day a book store for novels -in yellow and pink-in the evening, the people passing by- in black; this motiv is so definetely modern, because it presents in images something like a light source... I want to do this very much , it will be like light in darkness."
